The thirty-eighth annual Kaleidoscope concert will take place in the Mulroy Civic Center at OnCenter on Thursday evening, May 23. Kaleidoscope is an annual tradition of the West Genesee High School Fine Arts Department since its inception in 1976 and coincides with the year the Onondaga County Civic Center first opened.

For those who may not know, Kaleidoscope is a concert featuring a performance by all of the school's musical ensembles on the large stage, with small solos, duets, trios, and quartets performing in the wings, alcoves and boxes in between as the stage is prepared for the next group.

This year, the finale selection, another Kaleidoscope tradition in which all 430 students sing and play together, will be an arrangement by WGHS alumnus Nick Baratta of Chicago Medley from the band Chicago, including Call on Me and (I've Been) Searching So Long. The lyrics from these two classic compositions send the message we'd like to convey to our seniors as they move on to the next page in their collective lives.  Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at the HS Main Office, Fine Arts Office, at all May HS Concerts, the War Memorial Box Office or on Etix.com (search Kaleidoscope).  FAQ's, cover/poster artwork by WG parent Chris Andrews, and the student/parent letter are available to the right under the "Kaleidoscope" link.

Great video to share created by a West Genny parent Charlie Miller... "After winning the 2012 New York State Field Band championship, the Wildcats returned to Camillus at about midnight. A police escort led them under the fire truck ladders and past hundreds of people cheering. The brass section returned the favor. Here is that song with photographs that many of you have seen".

Director's Message

The curricular Fine Arts Programs encompass performing arts including strings, band, and choral music beginning in elementary school.   Our full time dance program originates at the high school level. Visual art is offered beginning in 1st grade and expands into multiple disciplines throughout Middle and High School. Our fine arts teachers are fully certified, professional educators and are specialists in their chosen artistic area. The success and accolades we have garnered over the past 50 years are a direct result of the commitment from students, teachers, and family members, all working in congress toward the highest levels of excellence.

The co-curricular program at West Genesee is vast and offers students many opportunities to perform and display outside of the school day and school community. These opportunities are listed in our Middle School and High School handbooks. We also offer summer instruction on band and orchestral instruments, vocal lessons, elementary, middle, and high school summer chorus, two jazz bands, and a week long String Camp.

WG was recognized in 2013 as one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America."   It was our 8th time since 2005 garnering this distinction, and our 5th year in a row. We hope to see you at one of the many concerts or displays that are free to the public. The Fine Arts does indeed "Celebrate Learning!"

Artistically Yours,

William Davern - Director of Fine Arts
