Counselors' Corner

As you are reading this, we will have just wrapped up our annual 8th grade “Making Connections” Career Day on April 4th. This fun and educational event has become somewhat of a tradition at CMS. We consider it the “grand finale” to the career exploration we have done with students while they are with us. In addition to our very dynamic speakers from two local colleges, many of our guests are CMS parents or guardians and members of the local community. We appreciate everyone’s efforts toward making this a memorable event for our eighth graders.

Believe it or not, April marks the beginning of the scheduling process for the 2008-2009 school year! We visit classes and provide students with their Course Selections sheets to bring home for your review and signature. Please be watching for those.

Our visits to classrooms also allow us to remind students of the Middle School Promotion Policy. We take the opportunity to stress the importance of remaining focused through the remainder of the school year. Third and fourth marking period, combined with final exams, account for 60% of the final average for each core course. Even though we are preparing for next year, this one is certainly not over! As better weather approaches, your continued support and encouragement from home is critically important.

Sixth grade parents and guardians, be sure to ask your student(s) about the program our Syracuse University interns are presenting in classes. It is designed to help students address rumors and gossip.

Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions or concerns (672-8381).
