Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Students,
As the new 2008-09 school year is about to begin at West Genesee High School, we are looking forward to the return of our students. We hope you have had the opportunity to share and enjoy with your family and friends the wonderful summer months. We have many new and exciting activities and experiences planned once again for the coming year and we are looking forward to the high school being in full operation on opening day, September 3.
In the coming year, we will continue to promote the success of our students by assisting with their academic needs. A primary reason for our students’ success is our tradition of providing support at every level, which, in turn, promotes academic achievement. Combined with the dedication of our outstanding teachers and staff, this support has become an integral part in sustaining our history of academic excellence at West Genesee High School. As you begin family discussions about the coming school year, please include the importance of our academic support services. Encouragement within the family unit plays an important role in maintaining high expectations for the success of our students.
One of the best ways for students to receive additional help by our excellent teachers is daily, during Interaction Time from 2:26 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. We strongly encourage each student to take advantage of this opportunity by staying after school with his/her teacher(s) as often as possible. To assist with transportation needs, late busses are provided Monday through Thursday at 3:05 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. and on Friday at 3:05 p.m. Also, review sessions are always offered after school prior to the scheduled regents exam.
Extra help is also made available for Social Studies, English, Mathematics, or Science through our Learning Center. The Learning Center staff is encouraging, supportive, caring, and genuinely interested in the success of our students, and we recommend that students take advantage of this program when needed.
Please feel free to contact our school counselors, teachers, administrators, and staff to assist you in answering any questions you might have both now and throughout the school year. The success of each of our students is important to us all.
Best wishes and good luck for a great school year ahead. We look forward to seeing you in the months ahead.
