This afternoon, the West Genesee Board of Education held a special meeting to move on a resolution regarding a contract for the purchase of real estate. The land involved is approximately 117 acres located south and adjacent to West Genesee High School that is currently known as the Westvale Golf Course.
The Board of Education felt this action was warranted due to the potential positive impact of this land acquisition on our district. The chance to work beyond our current property limits presents opportunities for our students and the future of our district. The location of the property relative to current West Genesee CSD and the access to both West Genesee Street and Kasson Road provides additional access points and space not currently available to us.
Eventually, there will be many parts of this process that will involve the community, including Board of Education meetings, community forums, and a proposition for voter approval. We are committed to growth in academic programs, expansion of experiences, and potential partnerships that could be realized through this property purchase.
This communication is to inform you of today’s action. You will be receiving further information in the coming days and weeks ahead.
Our West Genesee vision statement reads “West Genesee continues to focus on improving, every day, the educational opportunities and academic performance of each student.” With new parameters we can explore partnerships and planning that will impact our current population and generations of future Wildcats.
