Notes from the Nurse-April 11, 2025

Warmer Spring weather is near but it is still very chilly outdoors! Please make sure to send your child to school in appropriate attire: jackets, hats, gloves, boots and sneakers to change into. I have had an influx of children coming in with wet clothing from recess asking for a change of clothes. I have very limited supply on hand due to not getting those items returned - please ensure your child has a change of clothes they can store in their locker.

I am seeking donations of any new or gently used clothing, especially pants of all sizes. Please reach out to me if you have any items!

In general, your child should be without fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours with no use of medication, before they return to school.

Medications: Just as a reminder, medications should be hand-delivered to me by a parent along with the proper orders from your child's medical provider and a form we will complete together. I have found a few recent cases of children bringing in medications in their backpack which can be unsafe if they are accessed without an adult present. Thank you for your cooperation. Feel free to send me a message on ParentSquare, via email at bhind@westgenesee.org, or my office at 315-487-4658 to arrange.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime with any concerns.

Thankfully with the recent week off, I have seen a drop in the number of Flu A and Strep cases in the building. Prior to break, Flu seemed to be spreading like wildfire in particular classrooms. I am still learning about Influenza cases throughout the building, so please be mindful and keep your child home if they complain of viral-like symptoms. In general, your child should be without fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours with no use of medication, before they return to school.

Split Rock Nurses Notes-February 7, 2025

When to Keep Your Child Home from School:

As the colder weather sets in, it often brings with it an increase in seasonal illnesses. To help keep all students and staff healthy, we ask families to monitor for certain symptoms before sending children to school. We know illness has been going around, so as we head into the weekend, please take time to rest and stay healthy.

If your child displays any of the following, please keep them home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours

  • Vomiting or Diarrhea in the past 24 hours

  • Strep Throat. Your child should be on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school

  • Bad cold with congestion or bad cough, especially if it has kept your child awake at night; and/or the cough is continuous and consistent throughout the day.

  • Pink eye. Your child should be on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

If your child becomes ill at school and the nurse and/or teacher feel your child is too sick to benefit from school and is contagious to classmates and staff, you will be called to pick up your child.

Please continue to make sure to send your child to school in appropriate attire: jackets, hats, gloves, boots and sneakers to change into.

Attendance/Absence: ParentSquare will send a notification mid morning if your child is absent that you will be able to reply with a reason, you must wait for that notification to come through. If you do wish to let us know prior, feel free to send me a message on ParentSquare. Click here for additional info regarding reporting attendance.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime with any concerns.
